Weekend Fun

This weekend was a busy one, and full of fun. On Friday night I got to have a girls night. One of my coworkers started a "First Friday Flicks" group. It's like a book club, but better because instead of reading the books, we watch the movie! This Friday we watched The Help. Our hostess made some phenomenal Southern food in honor of the movie - chicken, mac 'n cheese, and chocolate pie! Yum! : ) It was good for me to get out, because I am usually content with just staying at home and lounging. But I realized that I need to get to know some people a little better to start building friendships here in our new home.

On Saturday, we took a school van to Da Fen, an artist village about an hour from here. There are aisles and aisles of art, ranging from Starry Night to portraits of Barack Obama. The artists live in the village above their shops. Most of the art is replications of famous works, and much of it is exported to hotel chains around the world. You can get good deals on pre-made art, or you can commission a custom painting. I did both.

My new embroidered art. Can't wait to hang it!

The painting I'm having created for my M-I-L. : )

Today Marty played a game of touch football with some guys from work. Everleigh and I went along thinking it would be fun to watch, but even at 9:00 am it was HOT! They played at a field right on the water, so we walked and looked at boats for awhile, but eventually we just cabbed it back home and went swimming instead. This afternoon I need to do some planning for school (something I really try to avoid doing on the weekends) and make a quick run to the store for some breakfast food (Evs goes through cereal and fruit like nobody's business!) And then *sigh* the weekend will be over. They always go too fast, don't they?
